The fact that the TVS King does 30 to 35 KM per Litre is alone proof that it is pretty environmentally friendly. However the TVS goes far beyond that.
On the 22nd of September 2020 the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) issued a EURO 4 Certificate of Conformity (COC) No. OL-20-3675 to the TVS King. After TVS Global submitted requirements to the satisfaction of the Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
So the TVS King Deluxe GS+ meets Euro Four standards.
However it is possible that the TVS King could meet Euro 5 Standards, because out of the 4 requirements to meet Euro 5 standards the TVS King meets the first three and it was not tested for the fourth requirement to meet Euro 5 standards.
To explain this more we first need to explain how Euro emission standards are calculated, what tests they do and how the rankings work.
European Emission Standards Ranking
European emission standards are ranked from 1 to 6 with 6 being the most environmentally friendly and 1 causing the worst pollution. So the higher the number the least harm it does to the environment.
To meet the standards of Euro 4 a motorcycle or Three-Wheeler emissions must me below a set amount, the pollutants checked are CO (Carbon monoxide), HC (Hydrocarbons) and NOx (Nitrogen Oxide)
To meet the standards of Euro 5 a motorcycle or Three-Wheeler emissions the same three elements are tested but they must be at a lower amount, plus they also test PM (Particulate Matter)
European Emission Testing
Most of us have seen how emission are tested by LTO simply by putting a sensor in the exhaust pipe, Euro emission testing goes far beyond this as it involves a lab test called Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) and a Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test.
WLTP involves tests of many driving conditions and RDE is carried out on real roads in a city with the vehicle connected to computers that monitor the emissions throughout the test.
We have been told that the Environmental Management Bureau in the Philippines lack the equipment to carry out these tests so use data gathered in other countries. In the case of the TVS King it was tested in the UK.
TVS King Deluxe GS+ Test results
|Euro 4||Euro 5||TVS King|
|PM (g/km)||–||0.0045||Not Tested|
As you can see in the table above the TVS King Deluxe GS+ was far below the CO emission to meet both Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards. The same is true of HC and even NOx it still managed to easily meet Euro 4 requirements and even Euro 5. How well the TVS King did is amazing when you consider another brand of Three-Wheeler only quoted its CO emissions and that was much higher than that of TVS King. We will leave you to draw your own conclusions why the other brand did not publish all 3 of the emissions.
Euro 5 Three-Wheeler Equal Euro 6 for Cars.
These Euro 5 emission limits for motorcycles and three-wheelers are the same as those of Euro 6 for cars.
So how Environmentally Friendly is the TVS King Deluxe
we can conclude that from the test results and the fact a three-wheeler emission for Euro 5 are the same as Euro 6 for cars it is possibly one of the cleanest gasoline vehicles in the Philippines.
